Evan Leblanc, BSc

MSc Student

Evan completed his BSc in Combined Honors Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of British Columbia (UBC). Driven by a strong interest in structural biology and therapeutic design, his research focuses on the de novo design and experimental validation of protein minibinders targeting Middle East Respiratory Syndrome-related Coronavirus (MERS-CoV). Evan’s work integrates a rapid “Design-Make-Test” cycle: designing candidate proteins using generative AI tools like RFdiffusion and BoltzGen; producing both minibinders and MERS Spike protein variants in vitro using mammalian and E. coli expression systems; and characterizing these interactions via Bio-Layer Interferometry (BLI) and high-resolution cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM).

Outside of the lab, Evan enjoys weightlifting, hiking, cooking, and running, as well as listening to music and attending concerts. He also loves his two French bulldogs, Charlie and Miles.
