Michael Rowley, PhD

Postdoctoral Fellow

Michael is a biochemist specializing in protein biochemistry and enzymology. He completed his BSc in Biochemistry from the University of Calgary in 2019 where he used x-ray crystallography to study enzymes involved in the synthesis of tetrahydroprotoberberine molecules from Glaucium flavum. Michael obtained his PhD from the University of British Columbia in 2024 in Dr. Adam Frankel’s group where he developed biochemical assays to characterize novel interactions of protein arginine N-methyltransferases enzymes. During his postdoctoral fellowship, Michael hopes to use cryo-EM to visualize the structure of heteromeric protein complexes dysregulated in cancer and to use structural biology and biochemical methods to develop targeted therapeutics against such complexes.
