PhD Candidate
Qiyu pursued her Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree at McGill University in the Honours joint program of Computer Science and Biology, minoring in Mathematics. Her undergraduate research was about predicting heart failure using multi-stage Cox model. After obtaining her BSc degree, Qiyu entered the program of Master of Arts (MA) degree in Biostatistics at UC Berkeley, where her research focused on Bayesian inference, the MCMC algorithm, and their application toward malaria infection parameter estimation. Qiyu completed her MA program, and joined the PhD program in Computer Science at UBC in the summer of 2024. She is supervised by Prof. Khanh Dao Duc from the Department of Mathematics, and is collaborating in the PROGENITER project to develop algorithms and pipelines for the heterogeneity analysis of viral spike proteins using Cryo-EM data. Qiyu likes hiking, baking and playing video games in spare time.
